AMF Bowling Alley on SE Powell Closing Next Month

At the end of May AMF Bowling Center on SE Powell Blvd. and SE 30th will be closing its doors for good. MAJ Development Corporation bought the building last summer for $4.8 million and plan to “update and upgrade” the building and lease it to a large, as yet undisclosed, national retailer.

This is the latest bowling alley closure for Portland’s east side in the last three years. In 2014 Hollywood Bowl in northeast Portland closed after 50 years in business and became an Orchard Hardware Store. Interstate Lanes in north Portland closed in 2016 with plans to become an apartment building, though the site currently sits undeveloped. When AMF closes, the last remaining traditional bowling alley on the east side will be KingPins on SE 82nd and SE Powell Blvd.
