Bike-Share Comes to Portland

With 1000 bikes parked at 100 stations around the city, Bike Town PDX is the largest bike share in the country and it launched in Portland today. Nike partnered with the City of Portland and the Bureau of Transportation to brand all the bikes with their signature logo at the cost of $10 million over five years. The partnership increased the number of bikes from 600 originally, to the 1000 that rolled out today. The bikes bear Nike’s signature burnt orange color and swoosh.

The bike share system operates similarly to car sharing systems like Zip Car. Users can sign up for a monthly membership, a day pass, or a single one-way trip through the Bike Town PDX website, app, or at one of the station kiosks. They then use their Bike Town-issued account number and PIN to unlock a bike and ride where they need to go, locking the bike up another kiosk when finished.
