Two popular Portland restaurants will be demolished to make way for apartments and retail space – the New Copper Penny in the SE Portland neighborhood of Lents, and Touché in the Pearl district.

The New Copper Penny, located on SE 92nd and Foster, was sold last week to developer Palindrome Communities. Along with the building directly across SE 92nd, Palindrome plans to build 145 apartment units – 126 of them deemed affordable.

Owners of the historic fire station building at 1425 NW Glisan St., home to Touché Restaurant and Bar, have submitted an application to demolish the building (along with two others on the lot) to build a 12-story mixed-use building with ground floor retail and 150 apartment units.
