Imagine living in a community where you know your neighbors, kids don’t require play dates, and everyone is able to enjoy central green space and natural surroundings. A place where your talents are appreciated and you benefit from the talents of others as you transform shared property into your collective home. You can, that’s what intentional community living is all about, and this is your opportunity to be a part of it!
The Mason St. Townhomes community consists of 13 beautiful new homes, 1 renovated existing home and a common house with guest room. All wrapped around an internal, central courtyard on a little over half an acre near NE Mason St. and Cully Blvd.
Last June Orange Spot LCC participated in Portland’s Deconstruction Incentive Pilot Program to deconstruct one of the homes and gave away all the re-usable materials to their Cully neighbors. Despite the recently declared “housing state of emergency” due to rapidly increasing rents and home purchase prices, Portland has not added much “middle” housing stock, including once-common townhomes and courtyard apartments. These housing types offer more affordable, resource-efficient, entry-level options for families and first-time homebuyers. Mason St. Townhomes is one attempt to help fill this gap. They have also partnered with Proud Ground to make 3 of these new homes permanently affordable to low income buyers.
Four buildings will house 13 townhomes ranging in size from 1000-1600 sq. ft. and share the property with an existing 840 sq. ft. detached single-family home.
- Aspen - New 2 bedroom, 2 bath townhome (about 1,100 square feet) sold affordably to income qualified homebuyers through Proud Ground's permanently affordable homeownership program: $219K - Priority for these homes will be given based on a qualified buyers date of application with Proud Ground. - Tupelo - New 3 bedroom, 2 bath townhomes, ~1,100sf - $424,900.
- Sassafras - New 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath townhomes ~1,550sf - $474,900 to $499,900
- Existing, detached 2 bedroom, 1 bath house ~840sf - $364,900
Shared common house provides a gathering place for residents and accommodations for out-of-town guests. The space includes a kitchen, main room that opens onto a community patio, 1.5 baths, guest bedroom and washer/dryer. Two bike storage rooms with lockable wall racks. Secure storage for shared resources like gardening and recreation tools. Existing large Norway Maple, plus new fruit trees on the way. The central courtyard is the perfect place where children can play, and grown-ups can socialize.
Cully is Northeast Portland’s most-populated and culturally diverse neighborhood. Densely packed housing gives the area an urban edge, but it’s warm, friendly residents make it feel more like small-town America. Community pride is strong here and Cully neighbors have a reputation for civic and social activism—and that makes it a great place to live. Its proximity to three bustling business districts (Alberta Arts, Beaumont Village and 42nd Ave.), schools, restaurants and community gardens doesn't hurt, either.
