New Development in Old Town?

A 20,000 square foot vacant warehouse sitting on the corner of NW 5th and Davis in Old Town Chinatown has new owners, and may now have a new future, too.

Originally an annex to the historic Mason-Ehrman Building, the warehouse has most recently been used as a storage facility by Zellerbach Paper Co. In January local real estate investment company Kalberer Company sold the building and lot for $14.5 million to LA-based GC Mason Ehrman LLC.  A design advice application has been submitted to the Portland Bureau of Development Services to renovate the 75-year-old building.  The application names Jonathan Malsin from Beam Development and Valery Yip of Gaw Capital Partners USAas the building’s new owners.

According to Oregon Daily Journal of Commerce:
Portland-based SERA Architects has been hired to design the renovation. Plans for the approximately $450,000 project include door and window upgrades, seismic upgrades, a roof upgrade and construction of “core additions,” such as restrooms and bike parking, according to documents submitted by SERA to the city.

Design advice from the Historic Landmarks Commission will be presented on March 9 at the Bureau of Development Services offices at 1900 SW 4th avenue.
