Tallest Timber Building in the US Approved for Construction

The tallest mass timber building in the US  has received approval by the Design Commission and is awaiting permits. The 11-story Framework building by Lever Architecture will be constructed using cross-laminated timber (CLT). CLT is a manufactured wood product consisting of layers of lumber-oriented set at right angles and glued to form structural panels. CLT has been touted as a greener alternative to concrete and steel construction and proponents hope it’s use can lead the way to carbon neutral construction.

The 142′ tall building will include over 30,000 sq ft of office space and 60 low-income apartments operated by Home Forward. It will be located at NW 10th & Glisan and is slated for completion at the end of 2018.
