The Portland Metro Area is experiencing a homelessness crisis. 5,000-12,000 people are sleeping outside or in shelters on any given night. According to the US Department of Education, over 20,000 children in the Metro Area are experiencing homelessness - making Oregon the #1 state in the country for unsheltered families with children.
Funding has been provided for physical housing, but studies have shown that wraparound services like case management, health care, and job training, and access to addiction and mental health care are crucial to successfully keeping people off the streets. That's where Measure 26-210 comes in. This 1% marginal tax on only the region's wealthiest individuals and businesses will provide the funds necessary to adequately match the scale of our homelessness problem without burdening low- and middle-income families.
Through our support of local organizations like Portland Homeless Family Solutions, Think has always been dedicated to addressing our homelessness problem. We enthusiastically endorse Measure 26-210 and urge you to vote YES on May 19th.
