What Renters Want

Despite rising costs, almost 40% of Portland households rent.* What do those renters want out of their residences? The National Multifamily Housing Council has released their 2015 Apartment Resident Preferences Survey and the results are not too surprising.

Some highlights:

  • 47% of renters are pet owners (compared to 33% nationwide)
  • The top 5 community amenities are:
    • parking
    • recycling
    • sustainability certifications
    • green initiatives
    • non-smoking buildings
  • 60% of Portland renters are women
  • Favorite neighborhood conveniences:
    • grocery stores
    • restaurants
    • public transit
